Redesigning
INDUSTRIAL CRIMPERS
redesign of a line of industrial hydraulic crimping products for Custom Crimp and Continental.
OBJECTIVE
Working with another industrial design intern, the goal of this internship was to begin the redesign of a complete line of industrial crimper products used to join metal fittings to flexible material tubing such as hoses or wires.
The existing product line was outdated, not user friendly, and did not reflect the cutting edge internal technology.
Tasks throughout this internship included conducting stakeholder interviews and field research to establish areas for opportunity, undergoing numerous rounds of iterative sketching and brainstorming, and working with engineering and marketing teams to down-select and refine concepts.
EXISTING PRODUCT LINE
Outdated, Bulky, Industrial, & Lacking Brand Identity.

RESEARCH
We interviewed numerous internal stakeholders, including internal engineers, members of the marketing and sales teams, upper management. We also spoke with several branch managers of hydraulic equipment supply companies and visited several facilities to observe users operating crimpers in their intended environments.
